DANCY LUMINAIRE

My luminaire is called Dancy and she's representative of all woman who want to let loose and have fun. The use of copper mesh with a metal spine gives the form elemental movement that makes her appear free with all the free forms. The light diffuses and create a calm light pink hue when illuminated. The veneer wood that follows her curvatures personifies someone or something trying to hold back her elegance and embrace, also dimming her light. The amber light makes this a suitable piece for a setting that's meant to relaxation, romance, quiet, and more.

Website inspiration: Kelly Wearstler

Intent

Kelly Wearstler is a renowened designer who's known for her distinctive lamp designs and signature soulful vibe. Her lamps are made to diffuse light in a way that doesn't disrupt the user and it's friendly to everyone. There's variation and consideration for all people.

Voice

She experiments with several forms that are elegant with a fun twist that showcases her attraction to vintage pieces. It's indicative of her extensive product design experience without disregarding the element that makes it ergonomic to the public.

Tone

The color palette is very muted and serene with subtle fun patterns and sculptural elements that make this cater to any person who wants a simple yet aesthetic furniture piece.

Brand

Wearstler is more process based than material. Her goal is to manipulate forms to create elegant yet fun lamps that are simplistic and minimal, allowing the work to cater to anyone that needs a lamp.

Persona

This website can be widely appreciated by any audience. The organization and visual photographs makes it easy to see all the products offered and appreciate each one individually.

PERSONA

Library

An ambitious 35 year old booklover invested in opening her own library in the neighborhood. She wants the design to be very minimal so that it's attractive to everyone, not just a specific set of people. The color palette she's going for is earth tones, but she doesn't want it to be too dull and grey. She comes across an instagram page for Kelly Wearstler and her organic yet geometric lamp forms. She thinks they'll be perfect for all the tables where readers will reside. The diffused light will also allow the library room to maintain a calm feel without overpowering light. She purchases 25 lamps all different in forms and fun looking with muted colors.

Newborn Baby bedroom

A pregnant soon to be mom struggles with the bright white light she deals with at her job office because it always gives her severe migraines. She's been on leave for a month because she's about to give birth soon and she realizes that her headaches haven't happened at all since she's been home. She's worried that her baby might suffer the same problem so she's very specific about the type of lighting to illuminate the baby room. Her husband is a contractor who curiously mentions this problem to his coworker, who's a professional in lighting mechanics. He refers him to Wearstler, who's lamps are affordable, very muted in color and light.

COMPETITION

Wearstler's lamp products have a lot of variations that cater to anyone. I feared that my product would only cater to a specific audience, but I didn't want that. I made it possible so that this product could maintain the premise of diffusing light for a relaxing feel, but it would be up to the customer what this lamp figure will look like. It's open for commission and there will only be one lamp just like it!
