Restaurant On FLEEK: Quality Eats
Michael Stillman — the son of Alan Stillman, the founder of T.G.I. Friday’s and Smith & Wollensky — has opened a sister restaurant to Midtown West’s Quality Meats. The idea is that Quality Eats, located on Greenwich Avenue (in the former Whitehall space), is more casual and cheeky than a typical New York steakhouse, and Stillman has brought on chef Ryan Bartlow, formerly of Frankies 570, to focus on affordable and lesser-known meat cuts.
The cheapest steak on the menu is $19 Bavette bar steak, and the most expensive, the “Don Ameche” (filet mignon with mustard-peppercorn sauce), caps at $29. Other dishes include grilled bacon with peanut-butter-and-jalapeño jelly, sausage-and-pepper toast, jumbo-lump crab with avocado, and lemon-charred chicken. But, like any steakhouse, it may be the sides that are most appealing: butternut-brioche bread pudding, brown-bag curly fries, creamed-spinach hush puppies, and baked-potato monkey bread.
