the application i chose for this project is the notes
app for ios.
Notes is a very useful tool for rapidly writing down quick ideas, lists or other records. it contains many features withing its framework that aid through the process but one section where it lacks its the of its tool bar
for a note application that relies on allowing to rapidly record ideas the tool bar is sometimes halts the user to an abrupt stop. personally i jot down my ideas so rapidly that i when it comes to using the tool bar for formatting it mostly feel cumbersome. the current tool bar system set up that the app provides often proves too much of a hastle to use during moments of quick action
an effective way to look at possible solutions is to observe the competition's alternatives
onenote delivers a scrollable tool bar with all of the tools readily acessible mostly focusing on providing media embedding as the immediate shortcuts followed by tools and text styles
Docs on the other hand prioritizes arrangement tools and text styles providing fixed shortcut for the tools most likely to be used while hiding the rest on a separate menu
the main goal is to streamline the formatting process of text for faster input. my proposal consists of a cascading tool bar with the different collapsable category of tools grouped together in fixed location in the tool bar. you'd tap to use the presented tool and hold and slide to select the other tools grouped in that same category.
the userflow indicates the gesture process the user would take to accompish the two most common tasks that can be accomplish using the redesigned tool bar while the wirefram shows placeholder shapes for what it will be the icon rows and icon groups
this prototypes diplays all the necessary gestures that will be incorporated into the toolbar
this version presents the final versions of what would be the icons and layouts the general gesture system from the first prototype remains unchanged
