SEA OF EMBERS WORKSHEET PROPOSAL
Gale (Frankie) Fassbender
DEVELOPMENT OF IDEA
My thesis revolves around the RPG video game "Sea of Embers." It takes place in a vast West Asian fantasy inspired world riddled with piracy. The objective is up to the player: they may rule the seas, tumble down a horrid war between empires, obtain legendary artifacts, or just explore the world of Meraki. Except... "Sea of Embers does not exist. My idea is to create an RPG video game’s website to give the impression that my (very real) concept art is an existing video game. When the user realizes that the game does not exist, I hope to inspire each user to contribute to the existence of the game by awaiting or looking forward to its creation. There will be a link of interest to preorder a concept art book of my work.
DISCOVERY AND RESEARCH
Dungeons and Dragons (insert link)
The D&D website offers a fun layout that expresses the possibilities of character creation with its side-scrolling character images. I love this aspect and hope to incorporate it into my own website as it gives the impression of infinite outcomes and a vast world.

Dragon Age: Inquisition (insert link)
Dragon Age: Inquisition does a beautiful job of storytelling and introducing its NPC's with its
website. I find it very inspiring on multiple levels: it explains the world, the conflict,
'legendary figures' you, the character, will work with, and it shows the beautiful world and art.
I hope to use a similar outline for my website.
Baldur's Gate II
Like the websites above, Baldur's Gate II maintains a unique style that speaks to the world building while also clueing in the viewer on the characters and stakes of the narrative. So far, most of these websites seem very dark in palette and also focus heavily on imagery.

TARGET AUDIENCE
My target audience consists of several crowds: the short answer being, well, anyone interested in video games! The long answer: I am most interested in using this website as a pitch to future employers within the gaming industry. I understand that I do not have the skillset to code and create all assets for this complex open world RPG game myself, BUT I do have ideas and a fleshed out world that I think would be successful based on its unique concept! (I have not heard of any other open world RPGS that take inspiration from West Asian mythology and the Barbary Corsairs! ) I am also fortunate to have a large audience on social media platforms. I also believe that they would be a good target audience for this too, as they can help advocate for the existence/proposal of the video game.
