Verticle Reading

Min Choi

In this article, the writer Min Choi discusses since the early of the 2000s, Roma Publications website hardly changes. The website has a consistent simple layout. The main page of the site is horizontal reading, it gives the basic information of the Roma Publications, and it gives a preview of the upcoming work. It is noticeable that the main page only created with HTML and a link to a javascript. After viewers click the "Enter" image, it leads to a web page where the site is consists of a long list of books that have been published. The vertical list page makes the internet or any technology devices users comfortable for scrolling and looking for the information. The list is divided into several categories for the viewer's convenience; it sorts by title, artists, pages, size, years, and in collaboration with. It uses the bold font to emphasize the title of each book.

I think it is smart that they have lots of information on their site, so they keep the style of their site simple and well-organized. People won’t get lost. Instead, they can search for things on the website easily. But one thing need to point out is that I do not appreciate with the design of the main page — the top of the information, where Roma Publications give information about their origin and achievement. The context is just way too wide to read easily from the devices. People have to move their mouse left and right to read the information. I hope that in the future, they can make those content into smaller column so that it won’t have readability issues.
