Earlier this year, I watched this film called Zola (written by Janicza Bravo & Jeremy O. Harris), and during this scene the subtitles jokingly translates the characters' speech.
I know this moment was done for comedic effect, but what's supposed to be funny about Black dialects and slang?
So I figured - what if I did this same thing to other instances of Black people speaking the way they speak? How would that come off?
