Creating an online catalog of ordinary things found around New York City,
I created a photo collection Fire Alarm Boxes in the streets of NYC.
Representing the ambiguity of the functionality and operability of
the alaram
boxes, the main page consists of only coordinates and mini preview of the images.
Also implying the basic fire alarm procedure - the police arriving after the fire -
red color of the hovering on each location represents the fire
and when you
click on the image, the coordinate turns to blue showing
that the police has arrived.
From the beginning, I knew what I wanted to do, so I was able to
execute what
I initially planned. The only struggle I had was
making the JavaScript that toggled
the large images to be disabled
when another coordinate was selected. For the
mini-preview images
showing on hover, I have used it before in my previous project,
so other than figuring out the js code, all was good.
