Designing for the Web
8 Steps

Step 1: Develop Your Idea

I want to create my own portfolio website to showcase my abilities in the field of product design. I have the goal that someone will be interested in my designs after seeing my website, which will become my resume that I will show to major companies after graduation.

My goal is to design a webpage that showcases my projects as a product designer so that visitors can learn about my unique style, design philosophy, and the work I have accomplished.

Key Challenges:

  • Present a coherent narrative about my aesthetic.
  • Showcase my work through a clear and user-friendly layout.
  • Ensure visitors have an engaging experience.

Step 2: Discovery and Research

I chose Pinterest as my reference because although design is very simple, it conveys information well and gives me a lot of inspo. I also researched other fashion and product designers' web pages and portfolio as well as shopping interface sites, exploring styles and image-based designs.

Discoveries:

  • Something fun and creative!
  • High-quality images.
  • Storytelling.

Conclusion: My website should have a clean, yet fun minimalist layout.

Step 3: Target My Audience

Audience: Potential clients, partners, or employers in the fashion and softgoods industry, as well as softgoods and jewelry lovers and followers of my personal brand.

User Needs:

  • Clear project presentation.
  • Personal information such as background, and other platforms.
  • Easy navigation to explore work.

Content Strategy: Tell the story behind each project, keep language professional but relatable, and let my personality come through in the "About Me" section.
