Step 1 Develop Your Idea
"Forward Sisters in the Struggle" is an oral history project on the role of women in the Puerto Rican revolutionary nationalist group the Young Lords Party. It is a compilation of interviews with women involved with the group as well as secondary interviews with men about their opinions on gender. The interviews will be uploaded to soundcloud, transcribed, and then put on a website to be made accessible to anyone who would like to use the information and learn more about the topic.
Step 2 Discovery and Research
I researched different oral history project on the web and found the design to be very bland.
Smith College's oral history activist project simply has a history on the first page and the narrative on a side menu.
Chicana Por Mi Raza is more along the lines of what I am interested in doing. It has a timeline of the history of the Chicano movements, events related to the oral history project, and a page of bios and interviews with the Chicanas.
Step 3 Target Your Audience
My audience includes students doing research on the topic, student activists, and educators. Because this website is purely for educational purposes it doesn't have to be very fancy but it needs to be user friendly and aesthetically pleasing the way Chicana Por Mi Raza is. The information needs to be easily accessible and the website must have easy navigation. The people who will be visiting the website will probably be leftists, so as long as practicality triumphs, their experience on the website will be a positive one.
