Something hearty for temperatures between 0 and 32 degrees:
Heat the olive oil over medium heat in a large, heavy soup pot or Dutch oven and add the onion. Cook, stirring often, until it softens, about 5 minutes, and add the garlic and a generous pinch of salt. Cook, stirring, until the garlic smells fragrant, about 30 seconds, and add the ground cumin seeds and carrots. Stir together for a minute, then add the lentils, water, sweet potatoes, chipotles, tomato paste, salt to taste and the bay leaf. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, cover and simmer 40 to 45 minutes, until the lentils and sweet potatoes are tender and the broth fragrant. Taste and adjust seasoning. Stir in the cilantro or parsley, simmer for another minute, and serve, passing lime wedges so diners can season their lentils with a squeeze of lime juice if desired.
Something cozy for temperatures between 32 and 50 degrees:
Spread cookie dough on the bottom of a greased or non-stick 8x8 pan. Place Oreos face down on top of cookie layer. Follow directions on back of Duncan Hines box to make batter, and then pour the batter over the Oreos and cookie layer. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Something versatile for temperatures between 50 and 65 degrees:
Stir all ingredients together in a 4-quart slow cooker. Cover and cook on low setting for 2 to 3 hours. Remove cinnamon sticks and switch to warm setting for serving.
Something outdoors for temperatures between 65 and 80 degrees:

Something refreshing for temperatures between 80 and 95 degrees:
Start by combining 1 cup water with the sugar in a small saucepan. Turn the heat to medium and let it warm while the sugar dissolves. Pour half the sugar syrup into a blender with the frozen mangos and lime juice. Puree until totally smooth. Pour the mango mixture into the bottom quarter of some ice pop molds and freeze for 20 minutes. Add the other half of the syrup to the blender with the frozen strawberries and lemon juice. Puree until smooth and pour it into the molds to the halfway mark. Freeze for 20 minutes. Repeat with another layer of mango and strawberry. Freeze until solid.
