Develop Idea
As an undergraduate majoring in Product Design, I would like to design my own website to display my works. It should be simple but also fun.
Discovery and Research
http://www.nendo.jp/ is a forerunner in the product design business. As reflected in the website, Nendo’s works focus on simplicity and brilliance in concept and execution. I enjoy their use of white space and how that makes the website much more pleasing to the eye. All their photos also have the same grey-toned background, which adds uniformity to the whole portfolio. It will be important for me to remember to employ this same sense of consistency when designing my website since I don’t want my works to look like a bunch of random things thrown together into a website.
Another product design website that matches my target of “fun” is http://www.jamiewolfond.com/. The website probably uses more advanced methods of coding/JavaScript as there are numerous effects, such as the pictures trembling when hovered over and the words in the background changing when scrolling down. In terms of user experience, I don’t think it is the best since having to scroll down forever to look at all the works can be too troublesome (compared to other websites where all the works are displayed at once on a grid). Nonetheless, it has the atmosphere of fun and quirkiness that I really appreciate.
Target Audience
My target audience will be companies that are looking to hire a product designer and the general public.
