Step 1: Develop Your Idea
The goal of my website is to sell oat milk. I'm planning on designing my own brand of oat milk that will appeal to a younger audience base and hopefully convince people to switch towards a more sustainable milk source. I wish to create a more personal connection with the audience through my website and designs so people purchase my products again. I also hope to promote my oat milk as the perfect pair for its natural counterpart: coffee.
Step 2: Discovery and & Research
After visiting multiple oat milk websites, I've noticed that many of them are quite simple and focus heavily on their products. Many of their fonts such as Oatly and Planet Oat remind me of the earth, which correlates with their mission for sustainability. There weren't many websites for solely oat milk as many fell under a larger parent milk brand such as Califia Farms or Silk. I do like the aspect of keeping the website clean with lots of white space so the audience can easily focus on the product I'm selling and what I wish to convey. However, I want to add a little more visuals to my website to connect more to that younger target. I would also like to incorporate a darker, neutral color palette to stay consistent with a modern theme.
Oatly
I like Oatly's oat milk website the most out of all the research I've done. I love their font design and their consistent, playful-like tone throughout the whole website. They're focused heavily on their sustainability and their graphics are simple and bold.
Chobani
Chobani's website is very clean and the neutral palette speaks to their connection to Earth and sustainability. Their serif font is simple and their website focuses on their products which are displayed on the front page.
Yi Nie
Silk's website only has one page dedicated to their oat milk as it falls under an overarching branch with multiple milk products. The colors are brights and contrast the white background heavily. They also include a review section on the same page and short descriptions of their milk. There's nothing particularly exciting about this website other than perhaps their font style.
Step 3: Target Your Audience
My target audience consists of younger millenials looking for a healthier, sustainable option for their milk option. I would then incorporate visuals and a clean aesthetic, something that would catch their eye among the other oat brands. The brand would be gender neutral and use a more neutral color palette to emphasize the sustainable aspect.
