A Handmade Web
In this reading the author talks about the web pages made by hand,
which lead me to things that were created with limitations.
He mentioned the slowness and smallness as a form of resistance, which reminds
me of a social experiment on reddit in 2017. There is an online canvas of one
million (1000x1000) pixel squares. After each pixel was placed, a timer prevented
the user from placing any pixels for a period of time varying from 5 to 20 minutes.
Over 1 million unique users edited the canvas, placing a total of approximately
16 million tiles in 72 hours. It means that even though we have really advanced
internet, there are still some people willing to spend 5 more minutes to just
place a pixel. This experiment shows the resistance that the author is talking
about. What are other activities that are like this?
The uniqueness and value was embodied in the handmade website when it was created
with human labor. How can this kind of uniqueness and value be rediscovered by people?
