Data 101 Book Waist 1400px*98px 2019.12.1 -->For Inspiration --> Another interesting page
Individuals create quintillion bytes of data everyday, but they don’t know
where it goes or who collects it.
Of course, people have no idea how data can
be used as a weapon against them. The behavior patterns
and psychological
analysis that can be extracted from the social media data are sketchy but detailed
enough
to influence people’s decisions without being noticed. Politicians
hired company like Cambridge Analytics
to get citizens' personal data from
industry’s giants like Google, Facebook, and used data analysis to control
people.
Without doubt, actions need to be taken to restrict those companies from invading
our privacy by
selling our data.At the same time, individuals should be
acknowledged of data right and start to fight for it.
However, data can be used to do something that can really benefits the society.
By sharing the information
they have attained through observing, listening and
feeling, individuals are able to prevent or even control
the outbreaks of disease
with the help of big data, which might be more efficient than waiting for the
government or related institutions to take actions after the outbreak.
Regarding public safety, persistently
reports of people who behave suspiciously
in one area can help detect terrorist attacks. While looking into
a bigger picture,
collecting data related to mobility, energy spending patterns can contribute to
a better way
of urban planning that will be more sustainable for the earth.
DATA 101 aims at showing the fact that the usage of data is a double-edged sword.
I want to encourage
individuals to protect their own data rights, while addressing
the importance of transparent data collection.
Through making this book, I knew more
about typography and yet there a lot of imperfections. For example,
There are widows at
the end of the paragraph and the justification hasn't been adjusted.
