Intoxication

Wire sculpture , plaster gauze , Ultra Violet light, wool, ceramic clay, Neon Paint This artwork represents how a build of emotions cause our bodies to fall under the influence of substance abuse. The prominent issue is that it causes society to collapse as a whole - victims of substance abuse tend to lose control over their actions. For instance, when one looks at UV lights for a long time, ones eyes begin to hurt and vision becomes blurry. Similarly when one is intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, sight becomes blurry and one may hallucinate. Additionally, I used UV lights as it amplifies colours in the dark, emphasizing that the world is going to fall into darkness due to drug abuse. The threads indicate the chaotic emotions in a person that drives them to abuse drugs, while the hands are injected with needles to show the different ways drugs are used now. The wire sculpture shows a body and its spirit suggesting the struggle to break free from the vicious cycle of drug abuse - as once you are addicted to drugs it is nearly impossible to break the chain. While under the influence of drugs everything might look pretty and happy but actually one is enclosed by darkness.

Conjoined Twins

Sculpture, shadow art, video projection Conjoined Twins is an inspirational poem written by Mr. Dr. A.Celestine Raj Manohar M.D. Conjoined twins are created in the womb, just like anybody else. In my opinion, I feel as though they have to unwillingly fight for their individual identities. Somewhere down the line they are always fighting for the freedom to be apart; however the only way they can achieve this is through death. Despite society looking down at them or considering them a result of black magic or even an evil creation, they’re just natural creations. For this reason, I have implemented the growth of fungus on my sculpture to symbolize how the process of their birth as a whole is simply a natural phenomenon. On the other hand, the shadow art placed in the background was inspired by artist, Nalini Malani, who uses art to portray social issues. Likewise, I believe that the way society frowns upon conjoined twins is an issue that should be addressed. It is unfortunate that throughout the duration of their short life span, they have to continuously struggle through it.

Zoom in Mumbai

Medium-Charcoal, acrylic, paper About -When Mumbai is being advertised or shown to any other place its portrayed in an extremely glorified manner. Even the affluent people of Mumbai are so blinded in their own world and don’t see this important issue of poverty. A couple of incidents that created this realization was when we were in the air flying into the city I noticed how half my city was covered with patches of slums. These binoculars is a metaphor of me zooming in seeing the poverty that lies in Mumbai.
