INTENT.

The website provides a platform for the company to display unimaginable possibilities for the world to envisage and act upon. Oxman is a new kind of company that fuses design, technology and biology by proposing the creation of design solutions by, for, and with nature whilst advancing humanity.

 

They invent multi-scale products and environments through radical ways of thinking and making that flow across hardware, software, and, wetware. Their design work augments technologies, both by informing and validating them throughout the development process making each platform applicable across a range of industries and scales-- from consumer goods to urban plans, from pharmaceuticals to apparel, from organisms to rockets.

 
 

VOICE.

The website has a futuristic nuance to it that largely celebrates biological augmentation of design solutions using technological innovation. The elements of the website are kinetic, pulsating and informative. The overall voice of the website is loyal to principals, knowledge and skills that cultivates a synergy between nature and humanity, by practicing scientific inquiry.

 
 

TONE.

A visually engaging element defines each and every page of the website followed by flow of information relative to the clicked title of a page. The typography further elevates the consistency making the website look more cohesive. The structure of the pages is well organised. Overall look of the website is minimalistic. The mouse cursor is interactive, not sure if that is a good design choice, since it sometimes makes it harder for the viewer to click on an element of the page.

   
 

BRAND.

Projects done by OXMAN over the course of years speak for the consistency of the company. Science and technology has always been at its heart which the graphics of the website displays accurately. The informative tone is poetic, one might find it ethereal, yet at the same time, it is intellectually clear-cut and concise encouraging one to envision a different, a possible realm of nature and humanity. I think the company blurs the line between art and science beautifully, their website represents their ideology.

 
 

PERSONA.

 

Museum Curator.

Laura Antonelli is a senior curator of the Department of Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art. As a curator she oversees collections of architectural designs installed and stationed at the museum. Her jobs demands her to be constantly looking for unique approaches emerging from the design world.

Antonelli is surfing through Oxman's projects page-- Silk Pavillion II piques her curiosity, She further studies the project throughly. She is impressed by the carefully documented creation with regard to modeling a process rather than to model a product. She navigates the cursor to the contact page and decides to write to the founder directly.

 

Architect.

Ranveer Mehrotra is an architect and an urban planner/ designer based in Boston. Given the rise of concern due to climate change, his firm wants to learn and research more on the various bio-materials that have the potential to fully and truly substitute the brick, mortar and steel of the present day.

Shaped by water, printed by robot, Oxman's Aguahoja II which is grown using the second most abundant material, chitin makes Ranveer want to explore this domain. He decides to further contact the company to collaborate.

 

Fashion Designer.

Alice van Herpen is a high-fashion design agency. They like to challenge traditional notions of the handmade to create ethereal garments that are radically future-facing and exquisitely feminine.

Herpen is struck by the expressive vitality of Vespers II, so they contact the Oxman. Of that sort is something Herpen wants to incorporate in their designs for their next fashion show as they are aiming for their next fashion show to showcase unity of multi-disciplinary technologies with intricate artisanal craftsmanship.
