Triton Chair was a commissioned work intended to be a slender rendition of the Trition Chair. The svelte design came about by accident, when I forgot to add a horizontal support between the three columns on the backrest. The client and I liked this design so much that we decided to have it constructed this way. The Triton chair is crafted entirely by hand with red oak board and ply.
Similarities have been drawn between my design and Charles Rennie Mackintosh's furniture. I am intrigued by a set of table and chairs he for a Willow Tea Rooms in Glasgow, Scotland. When seated around the table, the backs of the chairs extended so high that the seated party felt like they occupied a private room. The reason I tend to make tall furntiure is because I find objects that confront at eye level force the viewer to look around them, and understand a space differently.
