The Art of Dying Sources by Hilary Tunstall

This Processing sketch, using arrays and the random function, produces generative lines which represent living organisms. Using the mouse pressed command, more organisms can be added to the sketch, which will run and continue to grow until the key pressed command is used to destroy their networks. From this point, the generative lines begin to create a new random composition. This serves as the life, death and reincarnation of forms.

The video depicts flowing water, which is a common metaphor in Eastern philosophy for life. The colour alternates between red and blue, which represents the alternations of a heartbeat from atrial to ventricular, again signifying life. Tibetan chanting of the Om, which is the sound of creation, plays along with the video to create a meditative space for contemplation and interaction with the generative sketch.
