Develop Your Idea

I am inspired by the Japanese photographer Rinko Kawauchi’s website, utilizing the minimalist style to show her photography artwork. So, I would like to create a website for my portfolio where my photoshoot works I have done before but more like a diary with the theme of cute and girlhood aesthetic.

Discovery and Research

Korean Illustrator- Seeun Park 박세은

Seeun has a visual portfolio website, with cute illustrations interspersed with paragraphs of explanation on the main page. Seeun’s artwork mainly plays with colors that would not make the website look simple and boring with the white background and black fonts.

Also, some animations have been added to the page for visitors to explore at first glance.

While scrolling down, there is a banner “STRANGE DISCOVERY 낯선 발견” on the top, which adds richness overall and I found would be interesting to look at as the reference.

Visitors can also purchase creative products from Seeun’s website, which includes a wide range of categories like phone cases, diaries, ceramic artworks, magazines, cups, and pajama sets.

UK Artist-Sam Lyon

Sam Lyon specializes in 3D artwork and animation and has worked with clients including MTV, Adult Swim, Wieden+Kennedy, and Blinkink. The main page has all the work Sam has done before, and when you click on one of the works, it will lead to detailed information about that specific artwork with photos and animations. Besides using lots of text, using images to represent artworks on the main page would make the visual more artistic and appealing to visitors looking through each piece of art creation. The website’s background and the fonts Sam uses are also interesting, and visitors can see they reflect Sam’s personality and art style.

Target Your Audience

My target audience might be those looking for inspiration, fellow artists or photographers interested in collaboration, or people who simply enjoy the visuals of cute and girlhood aesthetics. With the photography work, I shot from different countries to show my story of moving from place to place and the transition of the photographic style of my perspective on viewing things in different environments and ages. The websites could become a platform for sharing my visual works and the narrative behind them.

Inspiration and Concepts

As my website would document my photography works, a website design with simplicity and minimalism would be a better match to avoid complexity and confusion. Therefore, to be designed with a cute and girlhood aesthetic style would be challenging. So, the color palette for the website would focus on two primary colors.

Here is the moodboard I have created with the color palettes, typography, some inspiration from some websites, and a landing page.
