ABANDONING SHOPPING CARTS ARTICLE REVIEW

Last week I started a new class to teach me about Ecommerce. Every week, they take home assignments is to review an article or website that covers the material we went over in class. This week we covered a basic overview of the market structure of Ecommerce. We basically defined what that industry is

For my weekly assignment I wanted to discuss an article I found about ”How to get People to Stop Abandoning their shopping cart. This is a difficult task for ecommerce because the article mentions that ecommerce sites “depend on purchases” in order t survive. So companies must focus on making their websites as user friendly as possible and their displays simple so that their consumers could quickly check out on the go. These researchers have found is many people don’t want to deal with shipping prices so they would rather just go to a store or they don’t have the time to deal with a lengthy check out process with a lot of information.

This article displayed a survey that asked people why they never checked their product out followed by their opinion on how to remarket your products to those who abandon their carts. They talk about basic steps to place a pixel in your check out system that places a cookie in their browser system so while that consumer is browsing again, display ads for your website could continue targeting that consumer and remind them to purchase from your website again.

The second technique they mention is called exit-intent technology, which basically sends a message to entice the user to stay on your page. It is called an overlay message.
