Designing for the Web

Idea

Create site showcasing my art and design works, specifically focusing on the exaggerated silhouettes and textures that are prevalent in many of my pieces. I want the site to either highlight or mirror these qualities and present them as my “selling point”.

Discovery and Research

Emphasis on shape and texture means a shift away from gallery/grid style presentation and a more sensory-focused experience. Possibly using hovers to showcase more details, using layered elements and shadows to create a sense of dimension on the site, and playing with negative space to draw attention to the silhouettes.

Target Audience

The intended audience would be potential employers and/or clients who want to see examples of my work. Since this population would likely be professionals looking through numerous portfolios, this site needs to be streamlined for easy browsing, but still artistically sophisticated and creative to stand out among the other resumes.

Introductory Framing and Concluding Call to Action

I think the most straightforward way of having an introduction and a concluding call to action would be the “About” page and “Contact” page respectively. However, these are very repetitive features on every site and it would be interesting if I could play around with this information and presented in a more visually stimulating way.

Inspiration and concepts

I was most drawn to sites that had simple or straightforward layouts, but visually stimulating photos keeping the viewer’s attention. I noticed that out of the sites I liked, many were digital publications or had similar formatting techniques as print media. I think it would be interesting to lean into this art/design magazine appearance for my site.
