Sickness Does Not Have One Color
Public health awareness poster examining racial inequality and unequal treatment within healthcare systems.
Concept
This poster focuses on the relationship between race and healthcare inequality. While illness itself is not defined by race or skin color, access to care, visibility within medical systems, and the seriousness with which symptoms are treated are often affected by racial perception and social bias. The rainbow-like layers covering the lower half of the face symbolize different racial identities and communities, while the grayscale portrait reflects how individuality can become reduced to categories within healthcare systems.
Research
This project references research collected by KFF (Kaiser Family Foundation), particularly their report “Key Data on Health and Health Care by Race and Ethnicity.” The report documents measurable racial disparities in healthcare access, insurance coverage, medical treatment, and health outcomes across the United States. These findings support the poster’s central idea that healthcare systems do not affect all racial groups equally, and that racial inequality can shape how illness is recognized and treated.
