Website Style Guide

I am a strategic design and management student, so I do not have a portfolio interest per se, but there are a lot of visual presences that I am interested in getting involved with. And, according to my conversation with ChatGPT, it doesn’t hurt to have a portfolio of web design for ecommerce or digital fashion roles, which I am interested in. I am interested in fashion media, so the work of magazine writers for beauty editorials like Allure magazine are of interest to me, since I would love to work at a place like that someday!

Intent

Especially on the writer's page, the goal is to create a bond for the viewer to the writer and the stories they have to tell, with fun and exciting visuals to lead the way.

Voice

Something I personally enjoy is how casual and conversational the Allure website is. It feels like talking with a friend. Additionally, the site could also be described as: chatty, relaxed, friendly, and welcoming.

Tone

The Allure web presence is quite consistent throughout the site. However, while a writer’s bio is more personal, the homepage feels much more advertising heavy. I would compare the Allure homepage to a subway car that has been bought up by the same advertiser.

Brand

Allure establishes its brand presence through consistency, as mentioned. In addition, something I found interesting is Allure’s subtle use of color to create visual cohesion and rhythm on the page as you scroll. The background color looks white, but it is actually an extremely pale, coral-toned pink. This is fitting for a beauty site!

Personas, with 3 Sketches

Allure’s website targets a few people:
Beauty Fans (like me): Beauty Fans go to Allure’s site just to see what’s going on in the makeup world today. I would consider this the most “innocent” site visitor. This person also visits the site casually.
Beauty Businesses: Businesses may come to Allure’s site to see what the company is saying about their products. For this reason, businesses may actually be the most “repeat” customer, hoping to see their new lipstick getting attention online.
Influencers: Hoping to get a shout-out from Allure, a site feature can be largely lucrative for these influencers. As such, they are likely to be highly invested in finding certain niches that they can fit their social media presence into. Like businesses, this visitor is on the Allure site frequently.

Competition

In comparison to the fashion behemoth Vogue, Allure takes a much more commercial approach. Where Allure is filled with promotions and mentions of products, Vogue focuses more on the cover story and editorial content. However, the wireframes are not that different from one another.
