ACCOMMODATED SOLUTION: PREGNANCY MATERNITY CHAIR
This issue needs to be addressed by the government. While they are arguing about implementing sex education in public schools and debating the approval of the "tres causales" law, I have come up with a solution that could at least help these young mothers finish school. This plan is proposed for universities to prevent the idea of promoting teenage pregnancy. However, it's better to have a teenage mom with her high school diploma than to have a teen mom who may never be able to finish her education.
This chair idea came from the piece called “Colección Primavera 2014” by the Dominican artist Jorge Pineda. This piece is a criticism of teenage pregnancy in the Dominican Republic, for which the government has not done anything about it. They have normalized this issue in the country for decades, if not longer. This issue affects any country economically, educationally, and for future generations, as many of these moms are single and can't work because their family environments are toxic, preventing them from getting financial or childcare support. The system doesn't provide them with any help for their needs.
The way this new chair for pregnant moms will help is by allowing them to stay in education without having to leave school because of their pregnancy. The vision is to have this chair in classrooms full of similar chairs, with moms and dads in the same situation, who need to bring their babies to class due to various challenges they might be facing. This will allow them to continue their education while keeping their baby safe and close. The chair includes a folding cover with noise cancellation to help the baby sleep peacefully while the mom studies. The chair's design doesn't assign genders, but because of the context of the Dominican Republic, it’s understandable to mention women. The design will come in various colors, allowing for a wider range of choices beyond traditional pink and blue, including yellow and classic school chair colors.
