Week 2: Second Assignment

Designing for the Web

Develop Your Idea

The problem I want to solve when developing my website is to have a better understanding on how I want to display my personal aesthetic and figure out the best way to present my portfolio as I continue to develop as an artist. I want to be able to show who I am as a person, including some of my mood boards, graphic design work, and other personal projects.

Discovery and Research

Leah Maldonado's website is simple while still feeling fresh and youthful. Her overall website set up is effective to me, in the way that she shows pictures of her artwork/work she has done, along with a brief and casual explanation. Since I personally like the look of pictures with text rather than letting the pictures speak for themselves, I think this layout will be very helpful when thinking of my own website.

Julia Fletcher's website is very different from Leah Maldonado's since she chooses to catch our attention with mostly pictures rather than a mix of pictures and text. Her bright and colorful personality is reflected mostly in her work while the website itself is fairly simple. Although I think I have a little bit of a different aesthetic than Julia, I really do like how her overall rainbow color scheme from her artwork and her logo is very eye catching. I also like the way she organized her navigation bar right below her logo.

Shavani Parasnis's website is really out of the box and I can see myself pulling a few ideas from this. Although I personally an not a big fan of her black background, there are certain design elements that I would definetly want to include in my website. I like how your directory mouse for example changes to different shapes and how we can see images by hovering over the text. Most of all, I find it so fun that she has a page where you can move and overlap images yourself since I've never seen this before on a website.

Target Your Audience

For now, my target audience for my website will be friends, family, and other students interested in art, specifically graphic design. I would really like to include fun elements here and there such as emojis, gifs, and maybe even links to videos. Still, I want to have a website that is both playful and professional incase I show this to future clients.
