Final Worksheet
Develop your idea
This semester I've gotten into 3D art, specifically sculptures, more specifically puppets. I made my own Muppet Show skit for my studio class and therefore needed to create a cast of puppets of my design. For my final website I want to create a digital puppet customizer where the user can ultimately purchase the custom puppet!
Meiker.io is a website used to create custom digital avatars in a variety of art styles. For example, I've attached an Animal Crossing avatar maker and a rat avatar maker! Ultimately I want my puppet customizer to be a simplified version of these, with just the eyes, nose, facial hair, color, and accessories options.
I want to make my landing page the customizer with tabs at the top to watch my puppet show to see the puppets in action as well as a page that introduces the user to my cast of puppets. This helps me world build and makes the user feel like they're a part of a community, like their puppet exists within the Maddie puppet universe.
This is an example of the character tab I want to create for the pre existing puppets I've made. It will have a headshot of each one with a short description of their personalities.
Finally, Puppet Heap's website shows a video tab that is similar to the one I'd like to have for my video. This will show users the practical implications of puppets, as well as their relative size. Furthermore it will strengthen the world I am building and keep users engaged with the larger context of my work.
My target audience is craft enthusiasts, puppet fans, and collectors. There is a large market for people that like physical custom things that look like themselves. For example custom Coraline dolls are super popular, with dozens of creative people taking custom orders on Etsy and Instagram. This will target the same type of audience, with a Muppet-y twist. They also had a build your own Muppet section in FAO Schwartz back in the day.
