Spa Pool

Under the Bridge

This bathhouse is designed around the idea of holding space in time. Inspired by the slow transformation of sand and limestone into glass, the project reflects the mall’s past, present, and future.

The bath spaces are sequentially mapped out and divided by thick, tall walls that heighten the visitor’s senses and create moments of spatial surprise. The minimal design draws the visitors attention towards their senses of touch, the materiality of the walls, the temperature of their body and the different dimness in light all contribute to the experience. The sharp contrast felt moving between each space encourages the body to remain alert and aware.

The past is brought back through a courtyard that recalls its role as a community hub, the present is shown through fading bricks that represent themall’s decaying state, and the future appears in its new life as a healing bathhouse. Thick walls, shifting pathways, and pools of different temperatures create a sensory journey where visitors move through open and narrow spaces, dry and wet zones, and finally arrive at the pools where time feels slower, quieter, and more reflective.
