My idea is to create a website where I can showcase my portfolio to people who would potentially hire me to work for them. My work is very spread out by graphic design, branding, hands on studio projects and photography which spreads from my years in high school until now. I want to be able to break down each category so people viewing my portfolio are able to see exactly what I’ve done for each medium. I want it to be user friendly, approacheable and professional.
Step 2: Discovery and Research
I researched IDEO’s website to study the visual layout, navigation and content of the company. The company’s tone is similar all throughout the pages, there is a lot of white space with black text and some images. This is an idea I would like to explore in my portfolio as well. A majority of black and white texts and backgrounds with a hint of color to make it professional yet a bit modern. Their predominant color is bright yellow, which is very discreet and often only appears when the cursor goes over it. I also like the idea of a color appearing with the cursor, however I will choose a different color as to not copy them.
Step 3: Target Your Audiance
My target audience is primarily people who would potentially hire me and interested in looking at the work I’ve done. It may also be people who are interested in seeing my work so there could possibly be a collaboration. Its also a place for me to go back and to refer to the work I’ve previously done. Since the main audience is made up of people who would hire me, I would like the website to be very professional and be able to show my personality so they can get a feel of what I’m like.
Step 4: Inspiration
I created a Mood Board of images which have inspired me. As you can see I want to use minimal colors, black white and a hint of color. I also want there to be a main header with categories which I will break down into the types of Project I’ve done. I also want an image in the front taking up the whole space and as the user scrolls down there will be a thumbnail print of each project I’ve done and once the user clicks on it, it will take them to a subpage in which there will be text explaining my process behind each project.
Step 5: Thumbnail
This is the main landing page, which has a header at the top with each section I will divide my work by. It will also include a big image at the front with a little bit of text about me so that potential employers can learn more.
As the user scrolls a bit more down they will see thumbnails of my project with the title on top of it. They will be able to click on each one which will take them to a subpage in which there will be more pictures of the project and also and explanation behind my process.
Step 6: Wireframes
Step 7: Photoshop Comp
My photoshop wireframes look exactly like I hope the website will look like in real life. I worry that it will be much harder than I expect it to be to make it look like this.
