Plant family: Lauraceae.
Ecology:
The Avocado tree that originated in south-central Mexico, more specifically, Puebla, Mexico. Now the avocado tree grows locally in the Americas. The fruit of the plant is a large berry which contains a single seed. (Which we refer to as the pit). To grow, the avocado needs: well drained soil, full to partial sunlight, lots of space to grow and shallow roots.
Uses:
Traditionally it was used and known by Aztecs as a delicacy and an aphrodisiac. The Aztecs referred avocados, as symbols of love and fertility due to them growing in pairs. Today, avocados are commonly used for eating and its health benefits.
Lifecycle:
The fruits are picked while immature, and ripened after harvesting. Blooming during: Spring, early summer, and late winter.
