Step 1- Develop Your Idea

A portfolio website of my own art work as an illustrator and artist.

Problems: What is the purpose of website? How will I organize my artwork so it can be clear and concise? How can I make the viewer not bored when viewing my art? - Maintain interest? My goal is to keep the viewer’s attention throughout the entirety of the website and to show how versatile I am through my artwork, as seen through the website, especially the homepage which will welcome the user. My artwork varies in style and technique, yet my goal is to not have the homepage resemble my work, but to give the mood and vibe of my personality.

Step 2- Discovery and Research

Well with my discovery and research, I researched illustrators website and how they were able to keep the attention of the viewer, and how they were able to organize their page.

For example starting with Nosego's art website. I analyzed this website thoroughly in my first web assignment found here: Assignment 1 In conclusion I learned that simplicity goes a long way in order to make your art work stand out. He was able to ull that through in the homepage of the website with just one image and a simple navigation bar on the top (as seen in the screenshot below). When it comes to the content page where he has his work, it is very organized in square grids, however I feel that the size of the image thumbnails are too small for my taste. Therefore I would like my page to be simple, captivating, but for the thumbnails where I display my artwork to be larger.

Gabriel Moreno is a Spanish Based illustrator and he is one of my all time favorites. His art work has always sparks my creative juices and inspired me through my own work. However viewing his website I wasn't please with the layout of it as I am through his work. He does numerous work for publishers, editorial, commissions etc. yet his page is just scroll down page where the most recent works are on top and if I want to look at his older work, I would have to keep on scrolling. I find this unorganized, however the size of the images are large enough that an extra slideshow for them isn't needed. In conclusion, what I did learn from his website is his tag: How he branded his name in his website. I would like to do something like that for my homepage.

Dessie Jackson is an illustrator that I've been following on Instagram for 2 years now, so for once I decided to finally go into her website since her work is always enjoyable to look at. Once I logged on her page I was in awe, and fell in love. As seen in the screenshot below of her homepage, I was welcomed by moving images of herself in a video, and whenever I clicked on the background, it would move to 2 other images of super close-ups of her art work. On the bottom left side is where her navigation bar was at. It was such an interesting homepage, that I wish it continued on when I clicked through her content pages, but it was so simple that it didn't overthrow her art. Also on her work content page, I like how her images thumbnails are larger than Nosego's, the perfect size I want mines to be, and when clicked, it opens up a slideshow. In conclusion I want my homepage to be as interesting as hers, with a large background to it, and with a simple navigation bar.

Step 3- Target Audience

Peers and Family- I will like to have something on the world wide web that my peers and family can see and admire my works. It would be easier approach just handing them a url than digging through my phone gallery or actual pieces to show them a recent drawing I made.

Artists- Artists, such as myself, love to dig around the internet for inspiration, or possible collaborations with other artists. My website will be my way of saying “Here I am, here’s my work!, you like? Don’t be afraid to contact me or having me as an inspiration!”

Clients- CLient lists may range to people that want commision done as in a portrait done of themselves, or a design for their t-shirt. I want my client to see that I am versatile and I’m capable of doing any work, and I am up for a challenge.

Art Directors- When applying for jobs or anything in the professional world, having a website that Art directors can view my artwork through will be more efficient when applying for a job. For example when I went to speak to the art directors from American Greetings, instead of seeing my work through a pdf, they preferred a website. Therefore I created a Behance account.

Step 4- Inspiration

Mood Board, inspiration from my tumblr page that is seen on the top center.

Step 5- Thumbnails
