I am a very sentimental person-- I keep magazines, papers, lists, photos, etc because I don't have the heart to get rid of things. I like looking back at the past and reminiscing: it is a theraputic process. With poetry and art, it is something that I just can "read" or "look at" and know that I have a connection to the work. sometimes it is more intuitive and other times it is just because I think it looks interesting.
I am someone who likes a wide range of things. I like consuming media, whether that is art, poetry, movies, lectures... anything where I can listen or see and "take in". Before coming to design school, I was planning to go into nursing or something biomedical, because I had a deep interest in learning about the body. I have pivoted that interest into a desire to understand what makes good desin vs great design--the psychology behind it. It introduced me to UIUX and understanding design beyond function and aesthetics, but what keeps people engaged. I think poetry and art help with this idea. The poems that visually grab my attention with different formatting or intersting typefaces. I get an idea of what draws people in and keeps them engaged.
The internet is a place that "basically" can store whatever your heart desires. Google drive stores your slides, documents, etc, so why can't personal art, poems, and other things that can be "contained" be used in the same manner. Whether I want to or not, having accessibility to my previous works is something that I will forever cherish, even if I regret or think I have "matured" since then.
