Tore S. Bentsen
Intent: This portfolio website is designed to showcase Tore S. Bentsen’s repertoire of work, document his recognitions, and provide his contact information for people to get in touch with him through.
Voice: His website is very clean and almost vintage in style. The color palette is very minimal outside of the video elements in his website design. His usage of text is very minimal and bold with how he chooses to present important information such as his name, and the names of the websites he has created. The website has a lot of movement to it. Elements move such as how video elements slide into place behind the work’s name which interacts and changes how the typeface’s font looks when overlapped, and small menus or graphics pop up when hovering over his recognition list.
Tone: The tone of his website is very consistent as it’s one long scrolling page instead of being split up into different pages. The navigation options just help a user quickly auto-scroll down to the start of his recognitions and to the bottom of the page that has an about section and contact information. The main differences between each of his presented work lies in the video image being reflective of the brand he made websites for.
Brand: Tore S. Bensten’s website has a strong consistent style throughout it and elements of his design style can be seen in the different websites he has worked on. There’s a strong emphasis on the scrolling experience and how elements of the website change or interact with the scrolling experience. Some of his work also utilizes how he has relevant images pop up when the mouse is hovering over areas. I’d label his brand as being clean, modern, and interactive.
Personas:
- A young aspiring web designer looking for inspiration
- Looking for inspiration, this aspiring designer is looking through lists of well designed websites in order to try and find artists to follow because trying to look up “artist portfolio” on the internet just gives back result after result of portfolio making websites instead. One artist’s name keeps coming up, Tore S. Bentsen. His websites are well made, and fun to interact with, there’s definitely elements of his work which this aspiring designer will take inspiration from. It’s pleasantly surprising how much personality a website can hold and what you can do with HTML and CSS.
- An employer looking for someone to design a website for them.
- This employer has an idea in mind for what they want their website to look like because they aren’t satisfied with its current appearance as it feels outdated. Tore S. Bentsen stands out when they look through job applicants, and a quick check through this artist’s website shows that the man is experienced. The award-winning description in his bio is not just for show as his list of recognitions is long and has been consistent over the last few years. The websites that he has created for other brands in the past are just what they’re looking for: clean, modern, and fun to navigate. It’s time to write and send a follow up email.
- An article writer looking for UI/UX design examples (how I found his site)
- When looking for an example of a website that has award-winning UI/UX design, this writer decides to look into the lead designer/developer of a past winner’s work. This artist’s work stands out to the writer because of its style and how clicking through each work that Tore has worked on showcases well designed websites and some that the writer recognizes from previous lists of well designed websites. There’s the artist’s contact information at the bottom of the page, maybe the writer will send the artist an email hoping to interview him for an article about UI and UX.
