Endeavor + Realization

Individual Effort

After a thorough research of how well recycled bottles can obtain a second life and even a third life and so on and on, I think my main strategy for actions will be mainly targeting the re-collecting and sorting section of water bottles in order to make sure that it can be returned back to a recycling factory.

Recollecting + Sorting

Persistence

I have been collecting water bottles since the beginning of this semester. Initially, I was collecting just out of a curiosity of how much trash I can create just by myself living alone for six months. Shockingly, with the attention to not consume so many disposal items, I still end up with a lot of water bottles at home. Not to mention, if I don’t have the attention to control myself like many others, it’s hard to imagine how much waste I can create. Further, if I don’t actively put them back into the recycling system, they end up in the landfill which will take at least 450 years for them to be bio-degraded.

Scavenger "Economy"

System Flow

For so long I have been curious about the industry hidden behind this business of picking trash. For every bottle I collect and give it to the scavenger, I can get 0.1 yuan. After the scavenger collects them altogether, he or she can sell the trash to the recycling company for an even higher price. When I think deeply into this system, it is actually a living example for a good combination of adapting business models in dealing with recycling problems. It is the first time consuming behaviors can be beneficial to environmental justice and well-standing. Therefore, my strategy plan is by actively participating in this system and documenting the process of me doing it so I can affect more people to recycle their plastic bottles.
