Wednesday Demonstration outside Japanese Embassy Seoul

On January 8, 1992, the Korean Council organized the first Wednesday Demonstration in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul, demanding a formal apology from Japan. According to Wikipedia, it has been listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's oldest rally on a single theme. The Peace Statue — a bronze girl sitting beside an empty chair — was erected at the 1,000th demonstration in December 2011, and has since inspired statues in San Francisco, Busan, and other cities worldwide. In December 2015, Japan and South Korea signed an agreement, but survivors rejected it because they were never consulted. As of 2022, only 11 registered survivors remained alive in South Korea.
