DISTRESS BEAR
BAG CHARM
A cute but imperative reminder of the impending climate crisis.
How it's Made:
First, towels are collected from household textile waste, where they are thoroughly washed and sanitized. After the cleaning process, the towels are cut into small rectangles to fit the size of the machine embroidery hoop.
A water soluble stabilizer is put on the top of the fabric and a traditional embroidery stabilizer is put on the bottom of the fabric. This is then placed into a commercial embroidery machine where the face gets embroidered.
After the embroidery is finished, the faces are cut out from the towel. A matching backside piece is cut from a non embroidered section of the towel, and the two are sewn together.
Before the two pieces are fully sewn together, they are flipped inside out to reveal the bear's face. Excess towel scrap and trimmings are further cut down into small pieces which then get stuffed into the charm. Using the towel scrap as plush filling allows these charms to be almost zero waste!
