3D Printed Heels
Collaboration with Isabella Bowie
Spring 2016
I collaborated on this project with accessory designer Isabella Bowie. Isabella designed three pairs of shoes that she needed to 3D print in order to add straps to make them wearable. I created these three shoe forms in Rhinoceros in order to 3D print the heel and sole.
Isabella supplied me with a foot cast in the desirable size and three heel mock-ups. I started by taking pictures of the shoe cast to create a curve so a foot would correctly form to the shoe. I then measured the heel mock-ups, recreated them in Rhinoceros, and mended them to the heel of the sole.
The details requested were an engraving of her brand name, pin-holes for her to thread leather onto the soles, and tracking to ensure that everything would precisely mend together. Below are images of the final printed heels.
