Final Worksheet

Step 1- Develop Your Idea

A portfolio/merchandise website of my ongoing project as an illustrator. The on going project is based on my WIP page from my midterm WIP Page and to create merchandise for it. This was an idea I had for 2 years now and I will like to test it out and see how the mock-up merchandise will bring in the audience. It is more of a proposal of merchandise.

Problems: What is the purpose of website? How will I organize my artwork and the merchandise page to be clear and concise? How can I make the viewer not bored when viewing my art? - Maintain interest? My goal is to keep the viewer’s attention throughout the entirety of the website and for them to enjoy the progress of my art (mini sketches evolution) and have the opportunity to see how merchandise may look like. My mini sketches varies in style and technique, yet my goal is to not have the homepage resemble my work, but to give the mood and vibe of my personality- to invite the audience.

To make it clear: THIS IS IS AN EXTENSION of my midterm website yet with one sole purpose of "selling". Merchandise will include: t-shirt designs, sticker designs, tote designs and maybe some others.

Step 2- Discovery and Research

Well with my discovery and research, I researched illustrators website and how they were able to keep the attention of the viewer, and how they were able to organize their page.

For example starting with Nosego's art website. I analyzed this website thoroughly in my first web assignment found here: Assignment 1 In conclusion I learned that simplicity goes a long way in order to make your art work stand out. He has an extension content page that guides us to his merchandise website which is also clear and concise. His merchandise page sells "little originals" and shirt and pillows. However due to maintenance of website and such the actual merchandise site was closed temporarily so I can't upload the image example, but the "merchandise" page has the same layout as the "little original" page.

Gabriel Moreno is a Spanish Based illustrator and he is one of my all time favorites. I have already described his art layout in my Midterm Worksheet. However my review of his shop page is much more positive. He sells poster size and large canvas size prints and originals of his artwork. I really enjoy his layout because he lays out his merchandise in two columns as the right column with the navigation bar stays fixed and explains each page such as "All", "Limited Editions", "Originals".

Daily Doodle Shop is run by illustrator Geffen Refaeli who runs an Instagram page named DailyDoodleGram whom I personally follow. The simple black and white inked illustrations are so cute and interesting and "sellable" , "for commercial use". In other words they are perfect illustrations to be sold and use on different products such as totes, t-shirts, stickers and more which is what I want to do. I like the page's layout because it's simple and the layout shown is what I have in mind for my final layout.

Step 3- Target Audience

Peers and Family- I will like to have something on the world wide web that my peers and family can see and admire my works. It would be easier approach just handing them a url than digging through my phone gallery or actual pieces to show them a recent drawing I made. Also it will be a great site for all those friends and family that has insisted on me to SELL and MAKE THINGS of my art for them to have. This is an opportunity for them to view how it can turn out.

Artists- Artists, such as myself, love to dig around the internet for inspiration, possible collaborations with other artists, and to buy gear!. Artsist love carrying weird cool designs on their everyday objects such as shirts and bags to level up their style.

Clients- Client lists may range to people that want commision done as in a portrait done of themselves, or a design for their t-shirt. This is an opportunity for clients to see potential t-shirt designs and contact me for a follow-up to get their t-shrt or one seen online come true.

Art Directors- When applying for jobs or anything in the professional world, having a website that Art directors can view my artwork through will be more efficient when applying for a job. For example when I went to speak to the art directors from American Greetings, instead of seeing my work through a pdf, they preferred a website. Therefore I created a Behance account. Also they old me that brining in an object usch as a mug with my art on it, even a sticker, makes the artist memorable. Now how about a site to continue shopping and buying products from the artist>

Step 4- Inspiration

Mood Board, inspiration from my tumblr page that is seen on the top center. Same moodboard as from my midterm since this is an extension of it.

Step 5- Thumbnails

Step 6- Wireframes

Categorizing my mini sketches chronologically with the editions I have which are 3, the 3rd one is still a work in progress.
Merchandise content page. Same to my WIP page from Midterm Website.

Step 7- Photoshop Comp

Homepage from Midterm Website. Maybe a possibility of a new background image.
Merchandise example page. Not there yet, just a quick prototype.
