Comfort

I believe comfort is a state of mind, not a physical state. This means that I could be exposed to an environment or condition that would normally be uncomfortable, but as long as I am accepting of and embracing what I’m facing, I consider myself to be comfortable. In a design context, I find it comforting that a material doesn’t attempt to be something else; I expect wood to be presented as wood, not painted or disguised to be a different material. Additionally, I believe any designed object should only contain intentional and purposeful elements or features, free of any unnecessary details that ultimately just distracts the user.
