PHILIPPINES FLOOD CONTROL CORRUPTION SCANDALS
ABOUT
THE FLOOD WATCH PHILIPPINES
The Flood Watch Philippines is an independent investigative agency dedicated to documenting, tracking, and examining flood control projects across the Philippines.
Flooding affects communities throughout the country, but the systems designed to protect them can be difficult to understand and even harder to monitor. Our work focuses on following the money, projects, contracts, and public records behind flood control infrastructure. We investigate reported irregularities, document unfinished or questionable projects, and create accessible records of where flood control funds are allocated and how projects are carried out. We bring together public documents, government reports, project data, photographs, and community accounts to build a clearer picture of what happens beyond the official announcements. Our goal is not simply to report when a project fails. We want to document the process behind it.
WHAT WE FOLLOW
- Flood control contracts and government spending
- Construction projects and their reported progress
- Unfinished, abandoned, or repeatedly repaired infrastructure
- Reported irregularities and allegations of corruption
- Companies and contractors involved in major projects
- Government investigations and official responses
- The experiences of communities affected by flooding
WHY WE DO IT
Public infrastructure is built with public money. When flood control projects are delayed, abandoned, poorly constructed, or subject to allegations of corruption, the consequences can extend beyond financial losses. Communities remain vulnerable to flooding while resources intended for protection may not produce the promised results.
