BFA Thesis:
Experiments in Body Graphics
The final experiment of my senior thesis project explored the visual phenomena where two complementary or contrasting colors touch causing a shifting, vibrating edge. This is called Complementary [or Contrasting] Color Vibration.
I conducted an informal color study looking at 12 patterns on 10 color combinations from the risograph printer. I then began a process of randomized pattern-making to see how the layering of patterns and colors would interact with one another. Because of the color vibration and the risograph's ink catching, the patterns transformed from flat graphics to seemingly textural surfaces.
Using architectural figurines, I began mocking up these patterns as super graphics to visualize this experience as a speculative installation. ‘Experiments in body graphics’ became a play-on-word with the idea of creating spaces which envelopes and embodies the participants.
